Annual Membership in the United Network for the Recruitment of Transplantation Professionals
In an effort to reduce position posting costs, the United Network for the Recruitment of Transplantation Professionals (UNRTP) is membership-based, although nonmembers are welcome to post individual positions.
The rationale for our approach is based on extensive research we have conducted over the past three years.
Depending on the source, the cost of individual position postings is highly variable. The range for transplant professionals in reputable sources is typically between $200.00 and $499.00 per month. Some sources charge $4.00 or more per word. Print advertisements in major medical publications can run as much as $6,400 per week, and $22,000 per month.
Many positions are posted in multiple sources for weeks, or even months. In fact, we have seen the same positions continuously posted in multiple sources for as long as two years. Consequently, cumulative posting costs, which are often ignored, can be considerable.
Based on our research, we estimate that the cumulative posting costs for a single transplant surgeon or transplant physician position now exceed $8,500 (the average recruitment time is 8 months). For other transplant professionals, including administrators, nurses, and coordinators (transplant and procurement) the cumulative costs range between $1,200 and $3,500.
Thus, all things considered, the pay-per-posting approach to advertising positions doesn't make sense, unless the position is likely to be filled in less than two months. Moreover, given that recruitment is often an ongoing activity, with multiple simultaneous searches conducted by the same organization, a long-term strategy is indicated.
To address the foregoing issues, and to enhance the overall cost-effectiveness of recruitment efforts, the UNRTP highly recommends the membership option to all organizations, including transplant centers, organ and tissue procurement organizations, pharmaceutical and device manufacturers, insurers and managed care organizations, as well as recruiters and the companies with which they may be associated.
Membership dues, which are variable, enable members to post an unlimited number of positions in all job categories. For example, annual dues for small transplant centers start at $600.00. Memberships are renewable.
