The Ohio State University Wexner Medical Center Division of Cardiac Surgery, within the Department of Surgery and in coordination with the Comprehensive Transplant Center, seeks applicants for a one year, intensive experience in cardiopulmonary transplantation, mechanical circulatory support, and the surgical management of end-stage cardiopulmonary failure.  The appointment to start on July 1, 2017, would provide patient care in our thriving and growing program.  This 1 year (with possibility of 1 additional year of research/training) experience aims to provide a comprehensive, in-depth exposure to Thoracic Transplantation (heart and lung transplantation), short-term / acute mechanical circulatory support (ECMO/ECLS, temporary VAD, percutaneous heart pumps), durable mechanical circulatory support (VAD and TAH), and ex-vivo lung perfusion (EVLP).  

Duties will include patient care responsibilities in heart and lung transplant procedures, mechanical circulatory support devices, and organ recovery and resuscitation.  Participation in the preoperative evaluation for potential candidates, transplant logistics, transplant surgery and in postoperative care would be expected.  There would be potential for laboratory experience in organ perfusion as well as outcomes research with an expectation for scholarly production (i.e., manuscripts and presentations). Individuals who have completed an accredited training program in cardiothoracic surgery and have an interest in the surgical treatment cardiopulmonary failure are encouraged to apply.  Must be eligible for and maintain an Ohio Medical License.
